The process after forming a new corporation or LLC can be broken down into five simple steps:

First, if you are going to have employees or open a bank account, you will need an EIN or Tax ID.

Second, make sure you protect your brand.  This includes getting your domain name and also filing for trademark protection.

Third, apply for business licenses that may need to be filed. Depending on the entity type and location, business license requirements can vary.

Fourth, make sure you file the annual maintenance documents. This usually includes an annual report for your entity.  At the same time, document any changes in the corporation, including new owners or investors, change in financial standing or roles.  Document that in your operating agreement or bylaws.

Finally, if you expand your business outside your home state, make sure you foreign qualify in the state in which you are doing business.
